Mark Langton began mountain biking in 1983 in the Santa Monica Mountains of Southern California. A brief but successful racing career saw him win several local and regional races in the Expert class in the mid-to-late 1980s. He is a pioneer in Southern California’s land-access movement, helping found the Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association (CORBA) in 1987 and the Mountain Bike Unit volunteer backcountry patrol in 1988, both of which are still having positive effects in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. From 1987 to 1995, he was an editor at Mountain Biking magazine, where he wrote dozens of technique articles and covered the best riders in the world. He began teaching mountain bike skills for the Learning Tree University in 1987 and in 1992 started CORBA’s Introduction to Mountain Biking Skills class, which he continues to teach today.
Mark rides and coaches locally in Thousand Oaks, California, where he lives with his wife, Teresa. For more information about his teaching philosophy, please visit www.mountainbikeskills.com.
