About Matt Schneider & Jessie Johnson
Matt Schneider began adventuring at a young age: first being carried in a backpack, then trying to catch up to his parents across trails, down rivers, and up mountains. He spent several years as a Boy Scout, then became a camp counselor, outdoor trip leader, and philosophy teacher. He has paddled, pedaled, hiked, climbed, surfed, and caved on 3 continents, 11 countries, and 28 U.S. states over the years; when not competing in off-road triathlons and other endurance events, or researching his next book, you can find him running a ropes course on St. Simons Island and teaching philosophy courses at the College of Coastal Georgia.
Jessie Johnson started her life of adventure by tromping through the woods behind her childhood home in North Carolina. Camping, hiking, backpacking, paddling, climbing, biking, surfing—if you can do it outside, she’s in! With years of practice, she and Matt have perfected the epic weekend adventure. Sometimes Matt picks her up from work on a Friday, bikes and burritos ready to go. When not out adventuring, Jessie is planning adventures or writing about adventures. In between, she works in outdoor education, volunteers with the St. Simons Island Sea Turtle Project, coaches a local Girls on the Run team, and races in off-road triathlons. Her number-one tip for epic adventuring is to store your camping gear in the car so that you’re always ready to go.
